External wall insulation is durable and long-lasting energy saving solution, with a little care we can keep it looking fresh for years to come. Our customers in Leicester and the East Midlands all receive a detailed information pack outlining the best ways to maintain EWI, here are some quick checks that will help protect your home:
- Check gutters and downpipes regularly
Blocked gutters cause water staining and damp patches on render. - Avoid high-pressure washing
A light clean with a soft brush and mild detergent is best for your finish. - Inspect render for cracks
Small hairline cracks are often cosmetic, but larger ones should be repaired promptly. Checking joints and seals is especially important after storms or extreme weather. - Keep plants trimmed back
Ivy and shrubs can trap moisture against the walls and damage render. - Look after painted or coloured finishes
Depending on the system, a refresh coat every 8–10 years keeps it looking brand new.
These may seem trivial – but with the proper care and attention you can keep your EWI looking fresh and clean with minimal effort!

A recent project by ARIL, in which the customers were advised to keep an eye on their tree mallow (pink flowers), as large growth against insulated walls can increase the risk of algae growth and moisture damage.
